Found a shelf layout I love

I was browsing through a copy of Reader's Digest Household Hints & Handy Tips and found a picture of a shelf I want to incorporate into my office. Check this picture out -

That angled shelf above the writing surface for putting a book would be perfect in my office as a place to lay out reference materials and notebooks on the worlds I create as I am writing out my novels. I like to work longhand when I am working on the outline for a story, so that would make an ideal layout for my outline area in my office. Add in a place for a oil lamp or candle - since I love writing my lamp or candle light rather than harsh overhead lighting, and I have an ideal place to let the muses play.

Of course - my desk space would not be on them ugly metal wall shelf supports, but I'll show you when I get that part built.

Office decor idea: fishies

Here is an office decor idea for you taken from something that I wanna do. Set up a fish tank in your office that you can use to stare into and relax when you get stressed out or need to relax so the muses will talk to you. I'll probably be putting the one I plan to set up out in the front room, where everyone can enjoy it, even though I'd rather set it up in the library instead.

Pen holder from votive holder

I have a sandstone holder that is intended to be used to hold a votive candle. However, I put a circle of felt in the bottom of it and am using it to hold my assortment of colored gel pens. It is just the perfect size for that.

Other ideas would be those wax sleeves for putting a votive candle inside of. You can get them in all kinds of decorative styles with dried flowers embedded in them and stuff. One of those makes a great pencil holder if you line the inside of it with sticky backed felt.

I want paper storage for my office

I have been looking around me and thinking just what sort of things I need in this place. I'm not talking about high-end techno gadgets or fancy technology designed for keeping the office on the cutting edge of science. I'm an old fashioned girl and if I could slip my computer into a little wooden box and disguise the monitor so that it looked like it was some sort of magical portal I would. I would like to be able to not see any technology in here at all.

Since that is not a doable objective, however, at least not at the moment, I have been instead thinking in terms of low end gadgetry that is needed to make things run smoother in here.

I want to get something that can help me in sorting paper for the printer and bookbinding and such. I go through a lot of paper and paper of different types based on what it is that I am up to, and it tends to get jumbled and in a mess if I am not careful, so I want something that I can use to sort it into types, sizes, colors, and purposes.

I went to Amazon to look for something like what I want and found the following examples:

Both of these are along the lines of what I am thinking, but I have to admit that the price left me cringing slightly. I'm not going to be able to drop $60 to $80 on storage boxes for my paper right now, so my search will go on. I'm sure that somewhere out there I can find what I need for a better price, if not - I'll make it and write a tutorial for you all on how I did it. ;-)

Got some office stuff - visual inspiration for writing

Got a few bulletin boards from second hand stores today. I'm going to use them for layout for my writing so I can plan stories and keep track of things easier. Also got a couple of small dry erase boards.

Yesterday my mom found me a neat lamp with a clay jug base that has a cut out on it to show a desert scene with a little light. Then today she found a great little stoneware terracotta covered hut thing that is like a igloo without the entry tunnel. It had been a incense burner, but I am going to add some stuff like a small cloth door covering and a few props and make it a visual example of one of the kinds of buildings found in my fantasy world. There is a really kewl sandstone votive holder that goes with it (well, now it goes with it, they didn't originally be a set).

Add in the feathery fern fossil rock I got yesterday and I have a few really good additions to the office decorations that will visually inspire my writing.
