Gah, please tell me that's not a thunder storm brewing out there

Spring has started into the thunderstorms phase here in Alaska, which means that as I am working I am watching the horizon fretting about if those dark looking clouds are a brewing thunderstorm or if they will leave me be and let me spend the day on the computer. I remember back when there were no thunderstorms in Alaska - and trust me, I know, I'm deathly afraid of lightning, I know when and where I saw it the first time up here. Me and my dad was taking a glass door out of the back of a truck and I dropped my end on the back of the truck as I lept ten feet in the air... well, okay, maybe ten inches. But I was still scared half to death. Don't like storms, it can just go away.

My desktop is making bad sounds

My desktop computer's hard drive is starting to make noise as it is running, a low "whhhrrrrrrr rrrrr rrrr" sound that has me a little uneasy. I have never heard it make noise before, and the last computer I had making noises did not last all that long before it bought the farm. I am hoping that this is not a indication that the hard drive is going to go out on my little Slimline, I really love the little computer and it's not old enough to die out on me yet. .. of course... it was a used computer when I got it from the Rent-A-Center place, so.... ::whines:: I'm hoping it's nothing as serious as my paranoia is making it out to be.

Work in Online Advertising

I was reading things on my iGoogle RSS feeds and found my way to an entry by Work at Home Success where someone asked if there were any no cost jobs for "...data entry online simple ad placing...". I was rather disappointed on reading the answer to the inquiry, Leslie Truex informed the person that there was no way to get work placing ads online unless they had special experience, and they they should "...scratch ad placing off the list of options, as I haven’t ever seen this offered as a legitimate job."

Now, granted that this article does bear a 2006 copyright date on it, but I would think that anyone that wanted to offer solid work at home advice would provide an update to the article - which I found on the front page as one of the two "top articles".

With the ever changing landscape of the Internet, there is indeed legitimate work from home jobs in ad placement now on the Internet. Companies such as PayPerPost, Blogsvertise, and Smorty allow anyone that has a firm desire to make money through online ad placement the opportunity to place advertising on blogs with very simple startup requirements.

For most of these companies all that is required is a blog that is over 3 months old, is updated on a regular basis with good posts, and is listed in major search engines such as Google. Each network has different requirements, and getting started does not have to be expensive. In fact, someone can get started on most of these services with a free blog and move to a domain after they have earned enough to make the move.

Father's Day is coming - how about a watch?

I was asked by ViaLuxe to look over their website and give my opinion on their website and the watches they offer, such as those by Jaquet Droz, IWC, Ebel, and other fine watch designers.

The ViaLuxe is an elegantly laid out website that makes me think of an old fashioned gentleman's watch shop decorated in rich wood and deep leather. Their images of watches are very nice, although I think I might have preferred to be able to open the images into a window at a bit larger scale so I could see more of the visual details of the watches that I have been interested in.

They do have good news, blog, forum and review boxes for the different watches, which makes it easy to see more information on each of them, however, there is not much in the way of reviews on the watches that I have looked at. This is not something that the site can be expected to have much control over, since I would prefer independent reviews on the watches, so if any of my readers have a jaquet droz, Ebel, or any of the other brands of watches ViaLuxe offers, they might consider offering a review for the watch on the ViaLuxe website for others that might have an interest in buying a similar watch.

Overall I found the site to be very interesting to visit and a pleasure to explore as I try to think what to get my dad for Father's Day.

Energy Drinks

I'm sitting here drinking one of those energy drink things, the Steven Seagal's Lightning Bolt Asian Experience energy drink. It's not too bad, the taste is definately one of the better ones among the energy drinks I have tried. I also tried the Steven Seagal's Lightning Bolt Cherry Charge energy drink the other day and it had a pretty good taste to it as well.

So far I think my favorite is probably the rip it energy fuel drinks, particularly their A'tomic Pom drink. Even the sugar free version of that one is good. Full Throttle, a Coca Cola product, has almost a lemon aid taste to it, making it perfect for the summertime when a tall glass of lemon aid is just the thing.

Energetic puppy

I had got a two pack of those 5Hour Energy drink things the other day to try out, the first one seemed to work really good, but before I could try the second one Cheyenne, one of my puppies, got her teeth into it. I saved the bottle, which had suffered only minor damage and one puncture mark, and set it on a higher shelf. Cheyenne seems to have got it again, because it is missing. Can't even find the chewed on bottle this time. At least now I know why the little pup was racing hyper circles around her brother long after he got annoyed at her and collapsed asleep on the floor. I'm just hoping now it did not have anything in it that will make her sick, she seems healthy enough, so I think she survived the experience. Will definitely keep them things well out of her reach from now on though.

Can't wait to work outside

It is warming up more and more outside, which means that I will be able to work outside more pretty soon. I can't wait, since trying to work inside is driving me crazy. The television in the other room is always turned up too much, so I can't ignore it, and I don't like to have to listen to the radio or music while I am trying to work. The one trouble with working outside is going to be that there are mosquitoes out there - BIG mosquitoes - so I'll have to think of something to do about them. Hate bug dope, it's sticky and yucky feeling on my skin. Remind me again why I work at home?

May as well work on the highway

Trying to work from home is like trying to work on the middle of the freeway during rush hour. You keep having to jump up and move as things happen all around you and it is impossible to just ignore things and get your work done.

I think the only way to reasonably work from home is to have an office outside the home, or be able to work at a time when there is no one else home. The latter is not an option for me, so I need to look into setting my office out in the shed up again this summer so that I can get away from the constant distractions of working in the house.

Planning for retirement

When planning for retirement it makes sense to think about investments that can be used as a part of a retirement plan. A part of my plan for my own retirement is to invest not only in an IRA, but to invest in precious metals such as gold and silver.

At the start of 2000 the price of gold was roughly $300 an ounce, today it is neatly $900 an ounce. While the price of gold had gone up and down, it has steadily gone up more than it has dropped, making gold a good long term investment for those looking to retire.

Silver, too, has seen a steady increase in value over the past ten years, being roughly $4 an ounce in 2002 and rising to about $20 an ounce by the start of 2008.

Investing in precious metals can be risky, since the price can drop the same as it can rise, so it is important to work with hard asset professionals that have experience. The hard asset professionals at the Monex Deposit Company have over 40 years of experience with helping investors looking to buy precious metals.

The Monex Deposit Company has silver in coin or ingot form ready for purchase and can assist in either personal delivery or deposit into an independent bank or depository.

To find out more about the price of silver and other precious metals, and about how Monex can help you with investing in precious metals, visit the Monex website at the link above.

Need a plan for sick days

I can not wait until I can retire. I am tired of having to spend all of my free time working and not getting to relax and take it easy even when I am sick.

It seems so glorious, working for yourself. The trouble is that few people realize that it really does mean you have to work even when you don't want to work. I need to come up with a way that I can keep my work running smoothly when I am sick. Maybe write a bunch of stuff that can be posted to the blogs and my websites when I get sick?

Trouble with working for yourself - no sick days allowed

One of the problems with working for yourself is that there is no one that can take over the work when you are unable to work due to illness or pain, that means you have to work rather you are physically able to work or not.

That is the point where I am at the moment, working even though I do not feel physically or mentally competent to be working. The other morning I started getting a toothache, by the next morning my face was starting to swell up, so I went to see the doctor at the Urgent Care Clinic. After a long lecture about how he could not fix the problem and I had to see a dentist he gave me a prescription for amoxicillin (which fixes the problem) and sent me on my way.

This morning my face was swollen even worse with a fever of 101.4, but it began getting better and while my face is still badly swollen at the moment, my temperature is back down to 98.6 as I am writing this.

All I want to do is curl up and go to sleep, but I need to work and I need to take another dose of medicine in about an hour, so I am going to stay up and get some work done while I wait for it to be time to take my medication, then I'll get some sleep.
